The Lower Saxony Memorials Foundation, based in Celle, was established as a foundation under public law in 2004 by a unanimous legislative resolution of the Lower Saxony state parliament.
The work of the foundation serves to commemorate the victims of National Socialism in a dignified manner and to enable a lasting engagement with their life stories; to permanently preserve, document, research and make accessible the sites of National Socialist persecution as well as the memories and testimonies of those persecuted; to increase and convey knowledge about National Socialism, its causes and consequences; to promote historical-political education about National Socialism and its crimes and to encourage reflection on the present.
