The German Emigration Center Bremerhaven opened in 2005 on the historic site of the New Harbour as the first migration museum in Germany. From Bremerhaven’s founding until its closure in 1974, about 7.2 million people left from the city’s ports to start a new life elsewhere. The German Emigration House tells the moving stories of people and how migration makes history as the centre of our societal lives.
